Threat Lens Extension Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Threat Lens browser extension ("extension", "we", "our") handles data when users install and use the extension.
What the Extension Does
Threat Lens helps users identify potentially inflammatory or hate-related terms while typing on websites, using a curated lexicon and on-page indicators.
Data We Process
- Website content (local processing): text typed in supported input fields is analyzed locally in the browser to detect lexicon matches.
- User activity (local processing): typing and focus events are processed to provide real-time highlighting.
-
Web history (local storage): the extension can store flagged-term history entries
(for example, term, site domain, timestamp) in
chrome.storage.local. - Optional suggestion form submission: if a user submits "Suggest a Term", we send the submitted form fields (word, language, hate type, optional context) to our backend endpoint.
Data We Do Not Intentionally Collect Through Core Analysis
- Passwords, payment card data, or authentication secrets for core detection.
- Sensitive page text is not intentionally transmitted to our backend for analysis.
- We do not sell personal data.
How Data Is Stored
-
Extension settings and local history are stored on the user's device in
chrome.storage.local. - Suggestion submissions may be stored on backend infrastructure for moderation and lexicon improvement.
Retention and Control
- Users can clear extension history from the extension UI.
- Users can remove local data by uninstalling the extension.
- Users can disable the extension on specific sites via extension controls.
Third-Party Services
Our backend may be hosted by third-party infrastructure providers (for example, Vercel), which may process standard request metadata (such as IP address) in server logs according to their policies.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data processed by the extension and backend. No system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest revision.
